Clean Development Mechanism (CDM)

Home » Clean Development Mechanism (CDM)

The CDM allows emission-reduction projects in developing countries to earn certified emission reduction (CER)
credits, each equivalent to one tonne of CO . These CERs can be traded and sold, to industrialized countries to meet 2
a part of their emission reduction targets under the Kyoto Protocol. The mechanism stimulates sustainable
development and emission reductions, while giving industrialized countries some flexibility in how they meet their
emission reduction… Our success story

  • India’s 1st Solar CDM project – replacement of 20,000 electric geysers with solar water heater resulting to
save 40,000 tones of CO every year.
  • Fly ash bricks (replacement of mud bricks with fly ash bricks) helps to replace 60,000 cubic tons of mud bricks
with Fly ash bricks and more over reduction of 35,000 tones of CO every year.
  • 25 projects of improved cook stoves – replacement of 3 stone (traditional) cooking system. With improved cook
stove reduction of 30 % Indore air pollution helps to improved women and child health issues.

CDM- Program of Activities ( PoA)

Its a facility created by UNFCCC to avoid tedious process of registering CDM project. In PoA we can add CDM projects for 28 years.
We GKEMPL are CDM PoA manager for the Government of India – “Development of Programmatic CDM Project for SWH installation under MNRE, UNDP/GEF Global Solar Water Heating Market Transformation and Strengthening Initiatives: India Country Programme”.
